About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern joins the HITT Futures Program for a 10-week immersive experience. This role focuses on preparing students for careers in project management or as construction superintendents through hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Draft submittals, RFIs, and change orders as part of document control processes.
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages, including soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams to assist with project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, and verification of site conditions.
- Participate in safety and quality control inspections, weekly training, and company events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, Environmental Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week duration of the program.
- Passion for the construction and general contracting industry.
- Demonstrated ability to learn project-specific software, including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on teamwork.
- Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related experience is preferred.
