About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern position is part of the HITT Futures Program, a 10-week immersive experience designed to prepare students for careers in construction management. This is a full-time, paid internship that provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development opportunities.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Assist in the preparation of bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and attending team meetings or client walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, site condition verification, and safety and quality control inspections.
- Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and networking events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university in Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering, or Business Administration.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week duration of the program.
- Ability to learn project software including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer service and team collaboration.
- Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related experience is a plus.
