Commercial Construction Intern

About the role#

Join the HITT Futures Program as a Commercial Construction Intern. This 10-week, full-time, paid program is designed to provide hands-on experience in construction management through mentorship, training, and professional development. Interns gain exposure to the roles of project managers and superintendents while working on commercial projects.

What you'll do#

• Support project management teams with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
• Assist in the preparation of progress updates and reports for client review.
• Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and attending team meetings and client walkthroughs.
• Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field-based teams to assist with project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
• Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and corporate responsibility activities.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at an accredited university in construction, engineering (Civil, Environmental, Mechanical, Electrical), or business.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week program.
• Proficiency or ability to learn project-specific software, including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on customer and client service.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related experience is a plus.
