About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern position is part of the HITT Futures Program. This is a 10-week, full-time, paid internship designed to provide hands-on experience in construction management. Interns work alongside project management and field teams to gain exposure to the daily operations of a national general contractor.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Aid in document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Help prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, preparing cost estimates, and attending team meetings and client walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, trade coordination, verification of site conditions, safety, and quality control inspections.
- Participate in networking events, training classes, and corporate responsibility activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related construction field.
- Ability to work approximately 40 hours per week for the 10-week duration.
- Ability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrated ability to learn project-specific software, including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on teamwork.
- Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related work experience is a plus.
- Passion for the construction and general contracting industry.
