Commercial Construction Intern

About the role#

The Commercial Construction Intern joins the HITT Futures Program for a 10-week, full-time immersive experience. This role supports project management and field teams while gaining exposure to the general contracting industry through mentorship, hands-on learning, and professional development.

What you'll do#

• Support project management with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
• Assist with progress updates and reporting for client reviews.
• Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Help prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
• Conduct preconstruction tasks such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, performing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
• Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
• Participate in team meetings, client walkthroughs, and company training sessions.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related construction field.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week program duration.
• Capability to manage multiple, competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency or ability to learn project-specific software, including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on client service.
• Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience is a plus.
