About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern position is part of the HITT Futures Program. This 10-week immersive experience provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development for students interested in pursuing careers as project managers or superintendents.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Help prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, performing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams to assist with project layout, construction drawings, trade coordination, and verification of site conditions.
- Participate in safety and quality control inspections.
- Engage in weekly training, educational classes, and corporate responsibility activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Architecture.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week program duration.
- Capability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Proficiency or ability to learn software systems including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- A passion for the construction and general contracting industry.
- Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience is preferred.
