Commercial Construction Intern

About the role#

The Commercial Construction Intern role is part of the HITT Futures Program, a 10-week immersive experience designed to prepare students for careers in construction management. This is a full-time, paid internship that provides mentorship, hands-on learning, and professional development opportunities.

What you'll do#

• Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
• Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
• Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
• Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
• Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams to assist with project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
• Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and corporate responsibility activities.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Architecture.
• A strong passion for the construction and general contracting industry.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week program.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
• Proficiency or ability to learn project-specific software including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
• Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related experience is a plus.

• Compensation: $18.00 - $25.00 per hour.
