About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern position is part of the HITT Futures Program, a 10-week immersive experience designed to prepare students for careers as project managers or superintendents. This is a full-time, paid internship requiring 40 hours of work per week.
What you'll do#
- Support project management teams with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Help prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction tasks such as reviewing proposals and drawings, performing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
- Work with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, construction drawings, trade coordination, and site condition verification.
- Assist with safety and quality control inspections.
- Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and networking events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in construction, engineering, or business.
- A strong interest in the construction and general contracting industry.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week duration.
- Proficiency or ability to learn project-specific software including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on teamwork.
- Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience is preferred.
