About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern joins the HITT Futures Program to gain experience in construction management. This 10-week, full-time program provides hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development designed to prepare interns for future roles as project managers or superintendents.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures, such as reviewing proposals and drawings, executing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
- Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and networking events.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Architecture.
- A strong interest in the construction and general contracting industry.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week program.
- Ability to learn project-specific software, including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with a focus on teamwork.
- Previous internship, volunteer, or work experience is preferred.
