Commercial Construction Intern

About the role#

The HITT Futures Program is a 10-week, paid internship designed to provide hands-on experience in commercial construction management. Interns work alongside project managers and superintendents to gain exposure to the construction industry through mentorship, professional networking, and career development training.

What you'll do#

• Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
• Assist with progress updates and reporting for client review.
• Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
• Prepare bid packages and assist in soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
• Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
• Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, and verification of site conditions.
• Perform safety and quality control inspections.
• Participate in social and networking events, weekly training classes, and corporate responsibility activities.

What you'll need#

• Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, or a related construction field.
• Ability to work 40 hours per week for the 10-week program duration.
• Proficiency or ability to quickly learn project-specific software including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related experience is considered a plus.
