About the role#
The Commercial Construction Intern joins the HITT Futures Program to gain experience in construction management. This is a paid, 10-week, full-time program designed to prepare interns for careers as project managers or superintendents. Participants engage in hands-on learning, mentorship, and professional development.
What you'll do#
- Support the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, and file management.
- Assist with project progress updates and reporting for client review.
- Manage document control processes, including drafting submittals, RFIs, and change orders.
- Prepare bid packages by soliciting and evaluating subcontractor bids.
- Conduct preconstruction procedures such as reviewing proposals, specifications, and drawings, executing material takeoffs, and preparing cost estimates.
- Collaborate with onsite superintendents and field teams on project layout, construction drawing, trade coordination, site condition verification, safety, and quality control inspections.
- Participate in weekly training, educational classes, and corporate responsibility activities.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, or Environmental Engineering.
- Ability to work 40 hours per week for the duration of the 10-week program.
- Proficiency or ability to learn project-specific software including Microsoft Office 365, Procore, Adobe, and BlueBeam.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous industry internship, volunteer work, or related work experience is a plus.
