Overview: Hexagon Autonomous Solutions, is looking for an Systems Engineering Intern (Geomatics / Electrical Engineering / Computer Engineering) to join our high-tech engineering and manufacturing company for the period of May 3, 2027, to May 2, 2028. To support our focus on delivering high quality products, we are looking for an enthusiastic internship student to add to our Systems Engineering Team. This role offers you the opportunity to work with a cross-functional team on upcoming product designs, as well as with the technical customer liaison for product improvements. You will gain a big-picture view of the complete life cycle of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) receiver cards, from concept through design, to integration and verification, and finally manufacturing and field support. You will be deeply involved in significant aspects of the overall receiver design, primarily RF design and performance optimization. The Location: Hexagon is a global company with locations around the world. This position is based onsite in Calgary, AB.
Responsibilities: Under the guidance of senior design staff, the Systems Engineering Intern responsibilities will include:Gain an understanding of the system through development of test/characterization plansTest set-up, test automation, manual testing and debugging, data collection, and data analysisDevelop analysis tools through scripting, graphing, and other meansWrite test reportsConduct design and test reviews with a cross-functional design/test teamPresentation of test/analysis results and recommendationsInterface with Manufacturing to optimize production yieldAnalysis of characterization and sustaining data for fielded products
Qualifications: Must-Have: Registered in the Engineering Internship/Co-op program and have completed your 2nd year of studies prior to the start of your work termEnrolled in Electrical, Geomatics, Systems, Software, or Computing Engineering at an accredited post secondary institutionGraduate and Post-Graduate students will be given strong considerationAvailable for a minimum 12 month work termStrong academic credentialsStrong written and verbal communication skillsStrong debugging and problem solving skillsKey Success Factors:Willingness to learn and dig into aspects of complex systemsAnalytical and troubleshooting skillsAbility to manually debug hardware and/or software problems to identify root causes Able to work in a collaborative team environmentConfident Self-starterAttention to detailsDetail oriented person able to follow complex instructions with a “first-time right” attitudeMotivated by challenging workYou are comfortable working individually but know when to ask for helpNice-to-Have:C++, Matlab/Simulink, Python, Batch, or other scripting languagesMIcrosoft Power BI or other data analysis toolsFamilarity with version control systems, such as Git, for managing code and collabrationBasic understanding of RF/digital circuits, and GNSS principlesHands on experience using common lab equipment, such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, and data logging programsPrevious wireless communication and Radio Frequency (RF) experience would be an assetDigital Signal Processing (DSP) knowledge would be an assetIf you are a UofC student, Electrical Engineering 471: Introduction to Communication Systems and Networks is a useful course for you in this positionNot sure if you meet all the qualifications for this role?
