Intern (Fall)

About the role#

KCRA/KQCA TV is seeking a Newsroom Intern for the Fall 2026 term. This 10 to 12-week program provides an opportunity to understand how a television station functions and the roles it plays within the community. Interns will gain experience across multiple departments, including the assignment desk, TV news production, digital news, sports, and weather.

What you'll do#

• Assist team members in gathering news and information, including handling communications with reporters, sources, and government agencies.
• Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
• Shadow reporters or anchors in the field during live reports.
• Research and write content for digital platforms, including the KCRA app, website, and social media.
• Monitor national sports feeds for breaking news, log sports events, and research team and player statistics.
• Analyze weather charts and models, assist with forecast preparation, and produce weather graphics.
• Support meteorologists in gathering critical weather data and practice forecast delivery in-studio.

What you'll need#

• Current pursuit of a degree in Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.
• Ability to gather news and information effectively.
• Strong writing and formatting skills.
• Familiarity with social media platforms.
• General understanding of broadcast journalism.
• Ability to analyze weather charts and models.

• Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
