About the role#
Hatch is looking for a Mechanical Design Technologist student to join our High-Pressure Metallurgy Group. This is a 12-month internship starting in January 2026. You will report to the Mechanical Detail lead and work from our Mississauga head office to support global projects. This role focuses on process plant layout and equipment design for hydrometallurgical plants used in the recovery of minerals like gold, nickel, and uranium.
What you'll do#
- Develop 3D models of mineral processing equipment using an integrated CAD environment.
- Design custom fabricated mechanical equipment in both 2D and 3D.
- Coordinate with a multidiscipline team of engineers and technologists to complete designs and layouts.
- Prepare and update project deliverables, including general arrangement drawings.
What you'll need#
- A Mechanical Engineering Diploma and a strong academic record.
- Experience with 3D modeling and 2D drawing production.
- A working knowledge of Microsoft Office software.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- A willingness to work extra hours when needed to meet deadlines.
- A willingness to travel if required.
- Critical thinking, creative problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude.
- Ability to learn quickly, take on new challenges, and adapt to change.
