About the role#
This is a summer 2027 internship based in Springfield, Illinois. You will work on-site as part of our roadway engineering team. You will support the planning, design, and preparation of construction documents for rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates. You will work under the supervision of a licensed professional engineer.
What you'll do#
- Prepare plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
- Gather and provide data for engineering reports and studies.
- Perform and review calculations for geometrics and transportation engineering projects.
- Use engineering software like MicroStation, OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD, and Civil3D.
- Conduct field investigations and provide survey assistance.
- Document and observe construction operations.
- Write memoranda, letters, and reports while maintaining project records.
What you'll need#
- Active enrollment in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
- Completion of your sophomore year at a 4-year college or university.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Analytical skills for complex problem solving.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- A valid driver license.
