About the role#
Michael Baker International is hiring a Construction Intern for the Summer 2027 term. You will work under the direction of the Construction Services Manager on highway, roadway, and bridge projects. This position is based in either Madison or Milwaukee, Wisconsin, with field assignments throughout the state. This is a full-time, paid internship.
What you'll do#
- Monitor and document that projects are built according to plans and specifications.
- Perform testing and inspection services on road and bridge projects.
- Review plans for upcoming projects and notify the manager of constructability issues or errors.
- Assist with overseeing the daily operations of contractor and subcontractor personnel.
- Answer contractor questions regarding plan and specification requirements.
- Identify contractor methods that do not align with project plans.
- Track work progress and measure quantities to ensure accurate reporting.
- Prepare field drawings or electronic templates to support pay quantity calculations.
- Perform material testing, including concrete yield, slump, air content, and soil or aggregate density.
- Apply testing frequencies to ensure material compliance.
- Electronically document daily work reports, including pay quantities and material requirements.
- Assist with preparing Letters of Interest for proposals, communicate with clients about staffing, and track project progress.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and CAD software such as MicroStation or AutoCAD.
- Familiarity with construction materials, methods, and processes.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
