About the role#
This internship provides a comprehensive look at how a claims department functions within Great American Insurance Group. You will gain hands-on experience in the Specialty Human Services division, working on projects that bridge claims handling and operations. This is a 10-week summer program designed to build your foundation in insurance through practical tasks, self-study, and networking.
What you'll do#
- Handle claim assignments, including initial coverage analysis, first contact, and investigation.
- Develop resolution strategies, write technical letters, and participate in negotiations.
- Support the operations team by entering new loss information and updating the litigation database.
- Utilize internal claims systems, programs, and databases to complete daily tasks.
- Complete reading assignments, self-study courses, and case studies.
- Participate in seminars, workshops, and networking activities with other interns and company leaders.
- Contribute to special projects within the claims and operations groups.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor degree program, with a preference for Business Administration majors.
- A minimum GPA of 3.0, with a 3.5 GPA preferred.
- Strong communication, analysis, planning, and organizing skills.
- Proven leadership experience through work, campus involvement, or extracurricular activities.
- Ability to work independently and stay self-motivated.
- Attention to detail and experience with spreadsheets, database management, and information technology platforms.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Cincinnati, Ohio.
- The internship is a part-time, paid position for Summer 2027.
