About the role#
Geotab is seeking an Embedded Developer Intern for a four-month term beginning in January 2027. This full-time, paid position focuses on understanding device functionality and implementing logic for a test automation framework. You will work across various technical areas, including hardware setups, Cloud APIs, and embedded devices, while collaborating with the Embedded Development, Software, and Test Development teams.
What you'll do#
- Develop an in-depth understanding of GO and IOX device functionality.
- Implement new logic for the test automation framework using Python, C, SQL, and potentially Rust.
- Write SQL queries and Python scripts to interact with Google BigQuery for data analysis.
- Build, maintain, and enhance tools to streamline and automate testing.
- Develop tools and dashboards to analyze device data and behavior.
- Write unit and integration tests while managing test coverage and environment maintenance.
- Perform system-level testing and stay current with new embedded development technologies.
What you'll need#
- Currently completing a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong knowledge of embedded software development and proficiency in C, C++, Rust, or Python.
- Familiarity with SQL, databases, and query writing.
- Understanding of OS concepts, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns used in embedded systems.
- Ability to work as a team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Technical competence with software programs such as the Google Suite.
- Linux development experience is considered an asset.

- Locations: Oakville, Ontario and Waterloo, Ontario.
- Term: Winter 2027 (4 months, beginning January 2027).
- Modality: Hybrid.
- Employment Type: Full-time (37.5 hours per week).
- Compensation: Paid internship with an hourly rate of $24 to $36 CAD.
