About the role#
The Estimating Intern supports the Estimating department at George J. Igel & Co., Inc. during the Summer 2026 term. This role provides hands-on experience in construction estimating, focusing on project documentation, vendor coordination, and bid preparation. You will report to the Vice President of Estimating and work full-time hours on-site.
What you'll do#
- Collect, organize, and maintain project documents such as plans, specifications, and soil reports.
- Ensure document integrity from initial reception through bid submission.
- Coordinate and communicate with vendors and subcontractors throughout the bidding process.
- Attend meetings, including pre-bid sessions and bid openings.
- Perform take-offs for units of work and evaluate potential project risks.
- Travel occasionally to evaluate proposed project sites before the bid date.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a 2-year or 4-year undergraduate degree program in Civil Engineering, Business Administration, Architecture, Environmental Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering.
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Record that meets company insurance requirements.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and strong communication skills.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods while visiting job sites.

- Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
