About the role#
George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is hiring a Safety Intern to support workplace safety and compliance across our construction projects. This role reports to the Regional Safety Manager and focuses on maintaining OSHA and DOT standards. You will work 45 to 50 hours per week, typically from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is an undergraduate-level internship designed to support career development in the field.
What you'll do#
- Perform safety audits on 10 projects per week once your training is complete.
- Review foreman reports and site-specific paperwork during your inspections.
- Attend morning huddles and provide constructive feedback twice a week.
- Conduct surveys to observe work conditions and identify potential health risks to employees.
- Analyze assessment results to create plans that improve work conditions.
- Address safety hazards directly with onsite crews to ensure compliance.
- Carry out industrial hygiene measurements to check for workplace pollution.
- Communicate safety findings to project management and the leadership team.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a two-year or four-year undergraduate program. We prefer students studying Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, or Industrial Engineering.
- You must be at least 18 years old.
- A valid Motor Vehicle Record that meets company insurance requirements.
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening, including testing for marijuana.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and clear written and verbal communication skills.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods while traveling between job sites.

- The role is strictly on-site with no hybrid or remote options.
- This is a paid internship at $20.00 per hour.
