About the role#
This is a 12-week internship for the Summer 2027 term, beginning May 17, 2027. You will join the Pricing & Rules Platform team to assist with modernization efforts, build self-service tools for business users, and advance automation initiatives. This is a full-time, paid position that offers employment visa sponsorship. You will work alongside industry experts and participate in professional development workshops and teambuilding events.
What you'll do#
- Support the modernization of the Rules Engine, including upgrading Drools and migrating from Java 8 to Java 17 or 21.
- Set up and run rules in champion/challenger mode while benchmarking for performance, freshness, and reliability.
- Assist with cache removal and runtime data loading.
- Build a UI to expose the Drools workbench to users with role-based access.
- Implement validation and guardrails to ensure business-authored rules remain consistent.
- Document trade-offs in performance, cost, and maintainability.
- Support dependency upgrades and remediate deprecated libraries or outdated build configurations.
- Assist in migrating authentication and authorization to Okta, including testing and documentation.
- Create automation and tooling to streamline pricing rule validation, testing, and deployment workflows.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proficiency in Java, including core language and OOP fundamentals.
- Understanding of microservice concepts and REST APIs.
- Familiarity with Git and version control.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a desire to learn.
- Preferred: Experience with Drools, Spring Boot, Maven, Gradle, or React.
- Preferred: Knowledge of SSO concepts like OAuth2, OIDC, and Okta.
- Preferred: Exposure to caching, CI/CD, Docker, cloud platforms, or scripting with Python and Bash.
