About the role#
This 12-week summer internship takes place within a General Motors automotive parts warehouse. You will support the Customer Care and Aftersales organization by supervising a team of union-represented operations employees or managing a specific departmental function. Working under the guidance of a General Supervisor, you will ensure that parts shipments are processed accurately and on time while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
What you'll do#
- Supervise daily warehouse operations and provide clear instructions to your team.
- Motivate hourly employees and support their training, coaching, and professional development.
- Monitor team progress to ensure tasks are completed safely and according to standardized work methods.
- Identify and address operational issues to reduce disruptions.
- Use tools like layered audits to find opportunities for process improvement.
- Assist with administrative tasks, including timekeeping and record maintenance.
- Apply principles of the General Motors Global Manufacturing System and lean operations.
- Complete a value-adding project for the warehouse and present your findings to executive leadership.
- Build professional relationships with union representatives, business partners, and management.
What you'll need#
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business, operations, supply chain, industrial engineering, or manufacturing engineering.
- Expected graduation date between December 2027 and June 2028.
- Ability to work full-time (40 hours per week) during the 12-week summer term.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated leadership through academic, extracurricular, or community activities.
- Willingness to work in a shift-based environment that involves standing, walking, and lifting.
- High level of integrity, initiative, and accountability.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Location & details#
- This is an on-site role. You must be available to work from one of these locations: Memphis, Tennessee; Warren, Michigan; or Burton, Michigan.
- The internship requires full-time availability on either the first shift (6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.) or the second shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.).
- Start dates are May 24, 2027, or June 14, 2027.
