About the role#
As a member of the molecular biology team, you will work on hands-on research ranging from DNA plasmid construction to the analysis of cell phenotypes and protein expression. You will contribute to the development of molecular biology tools and platforms while working alongside a multidisciplinary team. This position is open exclusively to current Northeastern University Co-Op students.
What you'll do#
- Design, build, and QC DNA constructs using restriction cloning, Gibson/Golden Gate assembly, and PCR.
- Run agarose DNA gels to analyze PCR products and digests.
- Perform gel extraction and DNA purification.
- Set up restriction enzyme digests and ligations.
- Optimize reaction conditions and troubleshoot cloning workflows.
- Perform core molecular and cell biology tasks, including DNA/RNA extraction, qPCR/RT-qPCR, transfection/transduction, and clonal line generation.
- Analyze and communicate experimental results clearly.
- Iterate protocols in collaboration with experienced scientists.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a Northeastern University Co-Op student.
- Pursuing a MS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Bioengineering, Biochemistry, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience with miniprep/midiprep, PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, restriction enzyme digests, ligation, and DNA purification.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear written and verbal communication.
- Highly motivated and enthusiastic approach.
- Curiosity and a drive to solve problems.
- Experience with synthetic biology, genome engineering, or assay development is a plus.

- Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts.
- Term: Winter 2027 (January 2027 to June 2027).
- Modality: On-site, full-time (40 hours per week).
- Compensation: $25 - $35 per hour.
