About the role#
Epic Games is looking for researchers to join our team for a paid internship focused on machine learning. You will work alongside researchers and developers at the intersection of computer vision, natural language processing, speech, embodied agents, and video game creation. This role allows you to contribute to projects that impact millions of creators and players using Unreal Engine and our games.
What you'll do#
- Develop machine learning models in a variety of research domains.
- Research interactive AI-driven characters, including LLMs, memory systems, and animation.
- Conduct research on game agents, 3D tracking of people and objects, and reinforcement learning for embodied behaviors.
- Explore world creation, game logic generation, and AI-assisted game development.
- Work on multimodal diffusion models, embodied intelligence, and physics.
- Improve user experience through personalized recommendations and spam detection.
- Focus on player safety, including AI alignment and content moderation.
- Research content localization and model distillation for real-time performance.
What you'll need#
- Current PhD student or recent graduate (within the last 12 months) in computer science, mathematics, AI, or a related field.
- Publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
- Experience implementing deep learning algorithms for computer vision, natural language processing, or audio and speech processing.
- Practical knowledge of modern machine learning methods, such as Transformers, diffusion models, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience with foundation model post-training, including supervised fine-tuning, preference learning, and reinforcement learning.
- Strong programming and experimentation skills with modern AI development tools.
- Experience in video game development with C++ or C# is an asset.
Location & details#
- This position is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
- The role is on-site and full-time.
- You must have existing authorization to work in Canada for the duration of the internship. No visa sponsorship is provided.
