About the role#
We are looking for a Data Science Intern to join the Ecosystem Security team. You will support initiatives related to fraud and abuse detection. You will own a specific detection problem throughout the development cycle, working alongside a mentor and operations analysts to protect our users.
What you'll do#
- Explore large transaction, account, gameplay, and behavioral datasets to understand how abuse occurs.
- Build and evaluate statistical or machine learning models to detect abusive activity at scale.
- Partner with operations analysts to turn investigation heuristics into model features.
- Measure model performance against real outcomes like confirmed cases and false positive rates.
- Build dashboards or monitoring tools to track signals.
- Document your data sources, methodology, and findings.
- Present your results to the team.
What you'll need#
- Experience using Python for data analysis.
- Ability to write SQL to pull and shape data from large datasets.
- A grounding in statistics and machine learning fundamentals.
- Understanding of classification and evaluation metrics beyond accuracy.
- Interest in developing strong data science and software development skills.
- Curiosity about adversarial problems and why people find ways to game a system.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to constructive feedback.
- A flexible approach to problems and comfort working with messy or sparsely labeled data.
- Preference for exposure to anomaly detection, graph or network analysis, text classification and NLP, or sequence and time-series modeling.
- Interest in games, live services, or online trust and safety is a plus.
Location & details#
- This role is based on-site in Cary, North Carolina.
- The position is full-time and paid.
- This is a rolling internship with a flexible start date in 2027.
- Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of the internship.
