About the role#
Epic Games is hiring PhD students and recent graduates for a paid Machine Learning Research Internship. You will work with research scientists and programmers to build state-of-the-art models that impact our engine technology and games like Fortnite and Rocket League. Research conducted during this internship is frequently published in top-tier conferences.
What you'll do#
- Collaborate at the intersection of vision, language, speech processing, embodied agents, and game development.
- Develop machine learning models for conversational character LLMs, 3D tracking, reinforcement learning, world building, and AI-assisted game development.
- Contribute to AI-alignment, user experience personalization, content localization, and model distillation for real-time performance.
What you'll need#
- Ongoing or recently completed (within the last 12 months) PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, AI, or a related field.
- A record of publication in top conferences or journals.
- Experience implementing deep learning algorithms for computer vision, natural language processing, or speech and audio processing.
- Hands-on knowledge of methods like Transformers, diffusion models, and reinforcement learning.
- Experience with post-training foundation models, including SFT, preference training, and reinforcement learning.
- Strong coding and experimental programming skills, including the use of modern AI development tools.
- Game development experience in C++ or C# is desirable.

- Location: Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
- Work modality: On-site.
- Commitment: Full-time.
- Term: Rolling start dates throughout 2026 and 2027.
- Sponsorship: Not available. You must hold an existing right to work in Canada for the full duration of the internship.
