About the role#
EMS-Tech is seeking an Electrical Engineering Co-op Intern to join our team in Burnaby. This is a full-time, paid internship for students entering their 3rd or 4th year of study. You will work on bulk material handling equipment and systems, gaining experience in electrical design, CAD drafting, and programming.
What you'll do#
- Interpret conceptual designs and perform analysis to meet project specifications.
- Size and select electrical components including transformers, switchgear, cables, motors, and control components.
- Perform lighting calculations and apply engineering science to your daily tasks.
- Execute PLC and HMI programming, as well as VFD drive parameter setting and field device programming.
- Develop hand calculation methods to verify analysis work.
- Produce 2-D CAD drawings using E3 Wireworks or AutoCAD.
- Prepare and check general arrangement and detail drawings.
- Write technical reports for equipment and component inspections.
- Build an understanding of standards such as CEC, NEC, IEEE, IEC, ABS, Lloyds, and DNV.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an Electrical Engineering program, entering your 3rd or 4th year.
- Ability to commit to a 12-14 month internship term.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Capacity to communicate effectively across different business units and management levels.
Location & details#
- Location: Burnaby, British Columbia.
- Term: May 2027 to May 2028, with the possibility of extension up to 14 months.
- Modality: On-site, 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Travel: This role includes a 2-month period at our Ontario head office.
