About the role#
EMS-Tech is seeking a Civil Engineering Co-Op Intern to join our structural department. This role offers an opportunity to work on bulk material handling equipment and systems. You will work alongside our engineering team on project designs and analysis. This internship requires a commitment of 12 to 14 months.
What you'll do#
- Complete analysis and calculation details based on provided conceptual designs.
- Develop 2D and 3D CAD drafting skills while producing drawings that meet company standards.
- Gain exposure to equipment, systems, and design methods, including steel and welding codes.
- Use structural modelling software and finite element analysis techniques.
- Perform hand calculations to verify structural modelling and equilibrium.
- Size and select mechanical components such as shafting, bearings, gearboxes, and hydraulic systems.
- Conduct member and connection checks.
- Use spreadsheet programs for technical analysis.
- Develop an understanding of basic welding principles and procedures.
- Prepare and check general arrangement and detailed drawings.
- Apply engineering science to your daily work and complete other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as a 3rd or 4th year Civil Engineering student.
- Ability to commit to a 12-14 month internship program.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Capacity to interact and communicate effectively across business units and with different levels of management.
Location & details#
- Location: Belleville, Ontario.
- Work Modality: On-site, Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week.
- Term: May 2027 through May 2028, with potential extension to August 2028.
- Employment: Full-time, paid internship.
