Role & Responsibilities
We are currently seeking an enthusiastic Mechanical Engineering Co-Op Intern The Mechanical Engineering Co-op role at EMS-Tech Inc. is a unique opportunity to be part of a global engineering team working on groundbreaking projects in the bulk material handling industry. You'll be working on massive, high-impact machines and conveyor systems, while sharpening your skills in CAD drafting, PLC programming, VFD drives, and advanced electrical design. This role is ideal for the student who is passionate about solving complex mechanical challenges and is eager to see their work come to life on a global stage. Our engineering team is pushing the limits of what's possible in the dynamic bulk material handling industry, which continues to grow with no signs of slowing down. There is a possibility that you'll also have the opportunity to travel to any one of our global project sites, getting hands-on experience with some of the massive machines you'll help design, while delivering cutting-edge solutions around the world. Here are some of the things you’ll be working on:
Take conceptual designs (prepared by others) and complete analysis and calculation details to satisfy project needs and specifications. Task scope, design concept, specifications, schedules and budgeted hours are provided. Develop 2D and 3D CAD drafting skills. Produce drawings to EMS-Tech Inc. standards and develop an understanding of drawing presentation. Gain exposure to EMS-Tech Inc. equipment, systems and methods of analysis and design. For example, but not limited to: AGMA, AISI, SAE, DIN, ASTM, FEM Section II, CEMA, conveyor design, hydraulic design, bearing selection, motor power calculations, etc. Develop ability to size/select mechanical components such as shafting, bearings, gearbox, reducers, couplings and hydraulic systems. Develop hand calculation methods as primary analysis tools. Develop analytical skills using spreadsheet programs such as Excel. Prepare and check general arrangement and detailed drawings Apply engineering science to daily work. Any other duties assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications
Rising Mechanical Engineering Student in 3rd or 4th year Willingness to commit to 12-14mths Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook Demonstrates strong interpersonal communication skills Ability to work both collaboratively and independently Ability to interact and communicate effectively across business units and to different levels of management
What We Offer
Interning with our Engineering Department represents a great opportunity to gain work experience in your field of study. Our office is located at 300 - 1160 Douglas Road, Burnaby, British Columbia, V5C 4Z6 and is easy to reach by car or transit, with free parking provided on-site. The incumbent will be required to work 40 hours a week from Monday to Friday. The Co-op internship term is from May 2027 to May 2028, which can be extended up to a period 14 months (August 2028) should all parties find the fit to the role well aligned.
