About the role#
EMS-Tech is hiring a Mechanical Engineering Co-Op student to join our team in Burnaby. This is a full-time, paid position focused on the design of bulk material handling equipment. You will work on-site Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The internship term runs from May 2027 through 2028, and we require a commitment of 12 to 14 months. Please note that this role includes two months of work at our Ontario head office.
What you'll do#
- Take conceptual designs and complete the necessary analysis and calculation details.
- Develop your 2D and 3D CAD drafting skills while producing drawings to company standards.
- Size and select mechanical components including shafting, bearings, gearboxes, reducers, couplings, and hydraulic systems.
- Use hand calculation methods as your primary analysis tool.
- Build analytical skills using Excel to process data.
- Prepare and check general arrangement and detailed drawings.
- Apply your knowledge of engineering science to daily tasks.
- Gain exposure to our equipment, systems, and specific methods of analysis.
- Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- You are a 3rd or 4th-year student currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- You have a working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- You communicate effectively with different levels of management and across various business units.
- You work well both independently and as part of a team.
- You demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.
