About the role#
ESTAT Actuation is a university startup focused on electroadhesive robotic components like clutches, brakes, and latches. We are looking for a Mechanical Engineering student to contribute to the development of our product line. You will work on both new and existing designs, helping us move from research to industrial-scale production. We prefer students who can commit to two 6-month rotations to ensure meaningful project contributions.
What you'll do#
- Design custom robotics components and translate designs into production files.
- Manage the manufacturing and testing of products, including test-to-failure and statistical analysis.
- Draft CAD models and perform FEA to support design iterations.
- Place orders with suppliers and conduct incoming and outgoing quality control.
- Machine parts in our shop and program robotic test stands.
- Assist with patent drafting for novel ideas.
- Participate in customer meetings and represent the company at major conferences.
- Travel for specific tasks, such as supplier factory visits or acceleration sled testing at an Air Force Base.
- Improve internal design tools and develop product demos.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical Engineering degree program, with a preference for Juniors and Seniors.
- Exceptional hands-on experience if you are a lower classman.
- Mastery of engineering basics, including CAD design, stress analysis, and data analysis.
- A self-motivated approach and a strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team and share technical insights with humility.
