About the role#
Empower is offering a 10-week summer internship for students interested in actuarial benefit consulting. This full-time program provides hands-on experience in financial services through direct involvement in business initiatives, mentorship, and professional development workshops. Interns will work on both individual and group projects, culminating in a final presentation to business leaders.
What you'll do#
- Learn the fundamentals of defined benefit, defined contribution, and retiree healthcare plans.
- Analyze client data to develop pension plan liabilities.
- Reconcile census changes and track associated gains or losses.
- Prepare ERISA funding valuations and government filings.
- Assist with employer match true-up calculations and non-elective allocations.
- Support cost projections, plan design optimization, and non-discrimination testing.
- Build tools and models to improve actuarial workflows.
- Perform actuarial research and statistical analysis.
- Complete assigned individual and group projects.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program with a minimum 3.25 cumulative GPA.
- Majors in Mathematics or Statistics.
- Intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- A critical thinking mindset with the ability to solve problems independently and within a team.
- Proactive approach to learning and professional curiosity.
- Demonstrated accountability in meeting individual and team goals.
- Ability to work in the U.S. without current or future visa sponsorship.
Location & details#
- The internship is based in Hartford, CT and requires on-site attendance.
- The program runs for 10 weeks, from June 2, 2027 to August 6, 2027.
- This is a paid, full-time position.
