About the role#
Elk Valley Resources is hiring for an Environmental (Fish Monitoring and Planning) Co-op position for the Winter 2027 term. This is a full-time, on-site role based in either Sparwood or Elkford, British Columbia. You will work with our environmental teams to support mining operations through data management and field-based fish monitoring programs.
What you'll do#
- Manage environmental data and reporting within the Environmental Data Management System.
- Participate in fish collection efforts, including spawning, electrofishing, and angling population methods.
- Operate and maintain the Remote Camera Program throughout the Elk Valley.
- Oversee and support the Environmental Health and Safety Committee and field safety initiatives.
- Update and manage habitat photo catalogues and fish habitat maps.
- Provide field support such as processing fish, collecting data, and taking measurements.
- Handle project management tasks including contractor supervision and project planning.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an undergraduate degree or diploma program in Fisheries Management, Marine Biology, or a related Environmental field.
- A valid Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent, without learner's restrictions.
- Ability to operate vehicles in various weather conditions and across different terrains.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access.
- Ability to manage multiple projects at once and work effectively outdoors.
