About the role#
As a summer intern in the Mechanical Engineering Division, you will work on programs that address national challenges. You will apply engineering principles to design and analyze components, while working alongside engineers and technicians to fabricate and assemble hardware systems. This role offers exposure to a range of technical tasks where you can build practical knowledge of engineering processes, facilities, and systems.
What you'll do#
- Design, develop, and improve engineering solutions for complex problems.
- Implement, test, and analyze systems while providing documentation support.
- Create and present test reports that include plots, tables, evaluation criteria, and conclusions.
- Use 3D CAD software like SolidWorks or PTC Creo for detailed designs.
- Conduct simulations using finite element software such as Ansys to analyze system performance.
- Work with operators in the machine shop, rapid prototyping labs, or circuit card assembly facilities.
- Complete assignments designed to build your understanding of engineering procedures and equipment.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an accredited full-time undergraduate or graduate degree program in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil, Electrical, or Biomedical Engineering.
- Strong computer skills, specifically with MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and project requirements.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- A strong work ethic, with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Note that selected applicants may be required to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
