About the role#
Albacore Inc. is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Summer 2026 term. This full-time, on-site position in Philadelphia focuses on the design, integration, and validation of mass-producible drone submarines. You will work directly on hardware that supports the defense of sovereign waters.
What you'll do#
- Contribute to mechanical design, integration, and validation efforts, including structural layouts, packaging, sealing strategies, and subsystem integration for propulsion and sensing.
- Design and fabricate custom hardware to support component verification and system performance evaluation.
- Execute focused technical investigations to assess new concepts, mechanisms, and materials that improve reliability and durability.
What you'll need#
- Experience designing and building mechanical or electromechanical systems.
- Proficiency in CAD tools, with a preference for SolidWorks, alongside knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, and design for manufacturability.
- Skills in structural analysis, material selection, and environmental design considerations such as pressure, vibration, and corrosion for marine applications.
- Ability to perform hands-on prototyping, fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, and iterative testing in laboratory and field environments.
- U.S. work authorization and the ability to obtain a security clearance.
- Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
