About the role#
As a Mechanical Engineering Intern for the Rocket Motors program, you will contribute to the development of hardware for space-based interceptor systems. You will take ownership of specific mechanical components, moving them from conceptual design through manufacturing, assembly, and testing. This role requires working across the office, shop floor, and test sites to iterate on designs based on real-world performance.
What you'll do#
- Own mechanical hardware through the full lifecycle including design, fabrication, assembly, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Create and update mechanical components, assemblies, interfaces, and prototypes using 3D CAD software and engineering drawings.
- Collaborate with engineers, technicians, and suppliers to resolve manufacturing and integration issues.
- Support hands-on activities such as hardware setup, instrumentation, data collection, and post-test inspections.
- Document hardware configurations, design decisions, and test results to support ongoing development and field tests.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a bachelor’s or master’s degree program in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or Robotics.
- At least one year of participation in a technically rigorous student engineering project.
- Proficiency with a professional 3D CAD system and the ability to interpret mechanical drawings.
- Ability to work fully onsite at the GITAI office in Torrance, California.
- U.S. citizenship required due to potential access to export-controlled information.
