About the role#
The Aggregate Mining Operations Engineer internship provides hands-on experience in limestone quarry operations. You will gain exposure to the full mining cycle, including mine planning, drilling and blasting, aggregate processing, quality control, and environmental stewardship. This role is designed to provide project-based learning while developing engineering talent for the mining and aggregates industry.
What you'll do#
- Support daily quarry operations and assist with mine planning, production analysis, and reserve management.
- Evaluate drilling and blasting performance, including data collection and reviews.
- Analyze production metrics to develop recommendations for operational efficiency.
- Track aggregate inventory and report on material movement.
- Assist with quality control through sampling, testing, and analysis.
- Participate in safety inspections, audits, and risk-reduction projects.
- Evaluate equipment utilization, haul road conditions, and cycle times.
- Assist with surveying, mapping, and drone-based data collection.
- Support environmental compliance and sustainability initiatives.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and safety teams on continuous improvement projects.
- Prepare reports and presentations for leadership, including a final project presentation.
What you'll need#
- Working toward a Bachelor of Science in Mining, Geological, Civil, Mechanical, or Construction Engineering, or Construction Management.
- Strong technical skills and the ability to build and interpret complex Excel spreadsheets.
- Experience with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Carlson Mining, Vulcan, or similar software is preferred.
- Previous internship, construction, industrial, or mining experience is preferred.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple projects, and communicate across all levels of the organization.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings, nights, and weekends.
- Ability to work outside for extended periods in various weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and navigate uneven surfaces, stairs, and ladders.
- A valid driver license and a good driving record.
