About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining hands-on experience with store and regional operations. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by immersing you in daily pharmacy workflows and patient care.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and key learning activities.
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Follow standard operating procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by offering counseling, fielding medical questions, and demonstrating empathy.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and communicate with prescribers to clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Perform basic inventory activities, such as cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing deliveries.
- Support patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies regarding patient privacy and safety.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by state regulations.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly, utilize active listening, and respond to patient needs.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work in your home store and travel to other locations within the market as needed.
