About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice while preparing for future responsibilities as a Pharmacist. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap designed to provide a comprehensive overview of pharmacy operations. You will support the pharmacy team to ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately while developing your clinical and operational skills.
What you'll do#
- Follow company standard operating procedures to assist Pharmacists and Technicians in managing patient health.
- Execute pharmacy workflow procedures at workstations including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Provide empathetic care to patients, including fielding medical questions and soliciting medical history under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and assist with medication changes where allowed by regulation.
- Perform basic inventory tasks such as processing deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Deliver patient health care services like immunizations and point-of-care testing where permitted.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members to share best practices.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in mathematical reasoning for tasks like calculating medication dosages and day supplies.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to focus on tasks while pivoting between priorities.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and a willingness to become immunization certified.
