About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap designed to prepare you for a future role as a Pharmacist. You will gain hands-on experience in pharmacy operations while contributing to a safe and inclusive team environment. This role involves working in your home store and traveling to other locations within the market as needed.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures for safe, accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Create personalized moments for patients and demonstrate compassionate care when solving problems.
- Offer immunizations and other health services, including educating patients on vaccine importance and monitoring for adverse reactions.
- Counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect medical history information under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and contact prescribers to clarify orders or facilitate changes.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory tasks such as cycle counts, returns, and processing medication deliveries.
- Review and document patient information.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- Availability for regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between duties, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including active listening.
- Mathematical ability to calculate dosages, day supplies, and medication quantities.
- Physical ability to remain upright for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, reach overhead, and perform repetitive finger movements.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
