About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school learning to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by providing an overview of store, district, and regional operations. You will support the pharmacy team in maintaining safe and efficient operations while developing your clinical and technical skills.
What you'll do#
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Ensure prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Contribute to a safe and inclusive culture while demonstrating empathy in all patient interactions.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and ethical principles.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- 1+ years of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong attention to detail to confirm prescription information and label accuracy.
- Ability to solve problems using math and navigate challenging patient or colleague interactions.
- Capacity to pivot between tasks and concentrate on work over extended periods.
