About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. Under the guidance of a preceptor, you will complete a training roadmap that covers store, district, and regional operations. You will assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly while developing your clinical and technical skills in preparation for a future Pharmacist role.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures for safe, accurate prescription fulfillment.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and care during interactions at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify medication details.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory activities such as cycle counts, returns-to-stock, and processing medication deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where allowed by law.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and assist with documentation.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws regarding patient safety, privacy, and controlled substance dispensing.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular, predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in concentrating on tasks and pivoting quickly between responsibilities.
- Ability to confirm prescription information and perform mathematical calculations for dosing and supply.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions.
- 1+ years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting (preferred).
- Ability to become immunization certified (preferred).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite (preferred).
