About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice while preparing for future responsibilities as a pharmacist. Under the direction of a preceptor, you will complete a comprehensive training roadmap, including key learning experiences and time spent with district leadership. You will work within our retail locations to support pharmacy operations, ensure patient safety, and contribute to a high-performing team.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled accurately and safely.
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, and drop-off.
- Provide caring service by addressing patient questions, soliciting medical history, and offering immunizations.
- Handle telephonic prescriptions and communicate with prescribers to clarify orders or facilitate medication changes.
- Complete inventory activities, such as processing deliveries, cycle counts, and returns.
- Provide coaching and mentoring to team members as you gain experience.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Educate patients on vaccines, monitor for adverse reactions, and document patient information.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Skills to concentrate on tasks, pivot between duties quickly, and ensure prescription accuracy.
- Strong communication skills, including active listening and the ability to interact effectively with patients and colleagues.
- Mathematical ability to calculate medication dosages and supplies.
- Ability to identify and resolve challenging patient or colleague interactions.
- 1+ years of experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite and the ability to become immunization certified are preferred.
- Ability to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market as needed.
