About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on developing your skills to prepare for future responsibilities as a pharmacist while supporting the pharmacy team in delivering patient care.
What you'll do#
- Assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely, accurately, and promptly.
- Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Take telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and clarify information as needed.
- Provide patient services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions for immunizations and maintain accurate patient documentation.
- Perform basic inventory tasks, including cycle counts and processing returns.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company standard operating procedures.
- Provide in-the-moment coaching to team members and contribute to a high-performing team environment.
What you'll need#
- Acceptance into or active enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining it.
- At least 1 year of related experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Ability to become immunization certified.
- Strong mathematical skills for tasks such as calculating dosages and day supplies.
- Ability to pivot between tasks quickly and maintain focus on prescription accuracy.
- Physical ability to remain mobile for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs, and perform repetitive tasks like typing or reaching.
