About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a training roadmap, gaining experience in store, district, and regional operations. This role focuses on helping pharmacy teams deliver patient care while you develop your professional skills.
What you'll do#
- Complete a comprehensive training roadmap and follow pharmacy workflow procedures at all workstations.
- Assist the pharmacy team with operations to ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Provide patient care by offering immunizations, point-of-care testing, and educating patients about vaccines.
- Monitor for and respond to adverse reactions.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and clarify details with prescribers.
- Offer to counsel and field medical questions under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Coach and mentor team members while maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local laws.
- Perform basic inventory activities, such as cycle counts and processing medication deliveries.
- Demonstrate empathy and care during all patient interactions.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment or acceptance into an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure as required by the state.
- Ability to complete all required training within the designated timeframe.
- Strong concentration skills and the ability to pivot between tasks quickly.
- Proficiency in verifying prescription information and label accuracy.
- Ability to use math to solve pharmacy-related problems.
- Skill in identifying challenging interactions and choosing the best course of action.
- Preferred: 1+ years of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service.
- Preferred: Ability to become immunization certified and work across multiple store locations.
- Preferred: Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
