About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role prepares you for future responsibilities as a pharmacist by providing an overview of store, district, and regional operations. You will support the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and patients receive caring service.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs and pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation to ensure prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and care during interactions at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone.
- Offer to counsel patients, field medical questions, and collect information on medical history under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Handle telephonic prescriptions from prescribers and contact them to clarify orders or facilitate medication changes.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete basic inventory activities, including putting away deliveries, cycle counts, and managing returns.
- Deliver health services such as immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Educate patients on the importance of vaccines and monitor for adverse reactions.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
- Capacity to concentrate on tasks, pivot quickly between duties, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to use math for pharmacy calculations.
- At least 1 year of related work experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to become immunization certified and proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Flexibility to work at your home store and travel to other locations within the market.
