About the role#
As a Pharmacy Intern, you will apply your pharmacy school education to real-world practice. You will work under the direction of a preceptor to complete a comprehensive training roadmap. This role provides an overview of store, district, and regional operations while preparing you for future responsibilities as a Pharmacist. You will assist the pharmacy team to ensure operations run smoothly and prescriptions are filled safely and accurately.
What you'll do#
- Follow company SOPs at each workstation to support pharmacists and technicians.
- Manage pharmacy workflow procedures for prescription fulfillment, including production, pick-up, drive-thru, and drop-off.
- Contribute to positive patient experiences by offering immunizations, fielding medical questions, and providing counseling under pharmacist supervision.
- Take telephonic prescriptions and clarify details with prescribers.
- Provide coaching, training, and mentoring to pharmacy team members.
- Complete inventory activities like cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and putting away deliveries.
- Deliver patient health care services, including immunizations and point-of-care testing, where permitted by law.
- Educate patients about vaccines and monitor for potential adverse reactions.
- Expand your clinical and technical knowledge through active learning and feedback.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in an ACPE accredited college or school of pharmacy.
- Valid intern or technician licensure, or be in the process of obtaining one.
- At least 1 year of experience in pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service settings.
- Ability to complete required training within designated timeframes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Suite.
- Strong mathematical reasoning and problem-resolution skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills with a focus on active listening.
- Ability to concentrate on tasks, pivot between responsibilities, and confirm prescription accuracy.
- Willingness to become immunization certified and perform vaccinations.
- Ability to maintain regular attendance, including nights and weekends.
