About the role#
This internship provides training in aluminum extrusion profile design and automotive structure development. You will report to the Senior Technical Manager and receive mentorship from Senior Design Engineers. Each intern completes an individual project during the semester, such as updating processes or creating training documentation for ISO certification. This program serves as a path toward potential future direct hire positions.
What you'll do#
- Create 3D CAD models and technical drawings to support product development.
- Assist the manufacturing plant with engineering changes.
- Manage data transfers with sub-suppliers.
- Help with internal crash safety testing and development.
- Use problem-solving techniques to identify root causes and develop countermeasures.
- Complete other tasks as assigned by your supervisor.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Mechanical or Materials Engineering degree program.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
- Strong communication, organization, and decision-making skills.
- Experience with CAD software such as CATIA or Siemens NX.
Location & details#
- Location: Van Buren Township, Michigan.
- Term: Summer 2027 (May to August).
- Modality: Full-time, on-site.
- Compensation: This is a paid position. Interns receive two paid personal days per term and are eligible for a monthly housing stipend of $750 if they live more than 50 miles away. Reimbursements for safety shoes and safety glasses are provided.
