About the role#
This internship focuses on the development of fluoride-free chemical pickling for aluminum sheets. You will work on creating safer alternatives to hydrofluoric acid for automotive aluminum production. The project aims to maintain etching efficiency and surface quality while removing the health risks associated with traditional fluoride-assisted solutions.
What you'll do#
- Review existing literature on environmentally friendly pickling solutions and additives.
- Design and run experiments to test how different chemistries affect etching performance.
- Use SEM and XPS analysis to study surface modifications caused by pickling.
- Assess how these pickling processes influence subsequent pretreatment deposition and bonding.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, Corrosion Science, or a related field. Students pursuing a Master's or PhD are preferred.
- Experience working in a laboratory setting and handling hazardous chemicals.
- A solid understanding of laboratory safety protocols.
- Ability to operate laboratory equipment and perform sample preparation and chemical testing.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- A willingness to learn from mentors and work with a team.
