About the role#
As a Quality Intern, you will work with our Quality Engineer at our South Edmeston, New York facility. You will support continuous improvement, food safety, and quality assurance programs. This role offers hands-on experience in food manufacturing systems and involves collaborating across departments on projects that affect product quality.
What you'll do#
- Work on quality-focused continuous improvement projects and lean manufacturing initiatives like 5S.
- Assist with FMEA documentation, Kaizen events, and process optimization.
- Support the Quality Engineer with NCR tracking and root cause analysis using tools like 5-Why's and Fishbone diagrams.
- Coordinate cross-functional CAPA meetings and participate in consumer complaint investigations.
- Collect daily quality data from yogurt production lines and support SPC monitoring and trend analysis.
- Maintain quality databases, generate reports, and assist with data visualization.
- Participate in product testing, sensory evaluations, and supplier quality assessments.
- Assist with quality management system maintenance, internal audits, and inspection preparation.
- Help train production operators on standards and participate in calibration programs for testing equipment.
- Support quality assessments for new product development.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program in Food Science, Food Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry, Statistics, or a related field.
- Expected graduation between December 2026 and May 2028.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and walk throughout the manufacturing facility.
- Comfort working in a food manufacturing environment, which includes exposure to temperature variations, noise, and requirements for GMP, PPE, and safety equipment.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
