About the role#
The Toro Health Pathways Research Intern position is a nine-month program for recent CSU Dominguez Hills graduates. You will work with the Cedars-Sinai Cancer Research Center for Health Equity to gain experience in basic and translational research. The role focuses on cellular senescence, cancer biology, aging, and metabolic disease within an active laboratory environment.
What you'll do#
- Develop foundational knowledge of cellular senescence, the senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), and senolytic drug development.
- Receive training in cell and molecular biology techniques, laboratory research practices, and animal handling.
- Participate in supervised research activities including experimental observation, data collection, data interpretation, and literature synthesis.
- Explore how senescent cells influence chemotherapy efficacy, tumor biology, immune checkpoint expression, and treatment outcomes.
- Conduct a structured scientific literature review.
- Participate in weekly research team meetings and scientific discussions.
- Attend academic seminars and networking events.
- Build scientific communication skills through summaries, presentations, and data visualization.
- Prepare a scientific poster for the Toro Health Pathways Poster Session.
What you'll need#
- Recent graduation from CSU Dominguez Hills.
- Interest in health-related disciplines such as cancer biology, cellular and molecular biology, aging, metabolic disease, translational science, or biomedical research.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Residency in the greater Los Angeles area or surrounding cities.
