About the role#
This internship provides an opportunity to develop foundational research skills through exposure to basic, translational, and clinical research. Interns work under the supervision of a Postdoctoral Scientist, Research Associate, or Principal Investigator to gain experience in healthcare research practices. The program typically lasts up to twelve months and exposes participants to a diverse spectrum of clinical and non-clinical research investigations.
What you'll do#
- Receive instruction and training in basic, translational, and clinical research methodologies.
- Complete orientation to the Institutional Review Board and human subjects research requirements.
- Support research projects through data collection, data entry, literature searches, and basic patient screening.
- Assist staff in maintaining detailed records of experiments and results.
- Observe and comply with all laboratory safety standards and procedures.
- Assist with the operation and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Shadow staff to gain exposure to scientific procedures and may assist with scholarly writing.
What you'll need#
- Current enrollment as an undergraduate student with senior-year standing in a STEM degree program, or a completed bachelor's degree in a STEM field earned within the past 12 months.
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Life or Physical Sciences, or a related field, including at least two years of laboratory coursework.
- Basic understanding of general research objectives.
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week.
- No licenses or certifications are required for this position.
- Eligible majors include Biology, Chemistry, Biomedical Sciences, Environmental Engineering, Public Health, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Sciences, and Kinesiology.
