About the role#
As a Newsroom Intern at KCRA/KQCA TV, you will gain hands-on experience in how a television station functions and the role it plays in the community. Over the course of 10 to 12 weeks, you will shadow and work with teams across multiple departments, including the assignment desk, TV news production, digital news, sports, and weather. This role provides insight into how news is gathered, produced, and distributed across broadcast and digital platforms.
What you'll do#
- Assist team members in gathering news and information from reporters, sources, and government agencies.
- Research and write content for digital platforms, including websites, apps, and social media.
- Monitor national sports feeds for breaking news, log sports events, and research player statistics.
- Analyze weather charts and models to assist meteorologists in preparing daily forecasts and producing weather graphics.
- Practice writing and formatting scripts for broadcast.
- Shadow reporters and photographers in the field during live reports.
What you'll need#
- Current pursuit of a degree in Journalism, Communications, or Media Studies.
- Strong research and communication skills.
- Ability to write and format scripts for broadcast.
- A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- A demonstrated interest in media production.
