About the role#
WGAL-TV offers paid internships within the News department for the Fall 2026 term. Interns spend 10 to 12 weeks gaining practical experience by shadowing and supporting various teams, including the assignment desk, news production, digital media, photography, sports, and weather. The program is designed to align with academic requirements and typically consists of 16 hours per week.
What you'll do#
- Assist team members in gathering news and information, including making calls to reporters, sources, and government agencies.
- Write and format scripts for broadcast and research content for digital platforms.
- Assist with field work and news gathering alongside photographers.
- Analyze weather charts and models to prepare forecasts and produce graphics (for weather-specific roles).
- Research statistics and pitch story ideas for sports segments.
What you'll need#
- Enrollment in a degree program related to Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, Political Science, or English.
- Candidates for Weather department internships must be enrolled in a meteorology curriculum or a closely related program.
- A strong interest in local and national sports is required for Sports department internships.
- Familiarity with news production and digital platforms.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
