About the role#
Join the SportsDay team at The Dallas Morning News as a fall intern. You will work with our sports staff on a mix of daily reporting and enterprise projects. While your focus is high school football and volleyball, you will also cover college and professional sporting events. This role requires working nights, weekends, and occasional holidays based on the news cycle.
What you'll do#
- Cover high school football and volleyball games.
- Write weekly posts on teams, games, and players to watch.
- Pitch and write feature, enterprise, and trend pieces.
- Capture photos and videos at events using your phone.
- Maintain an active social media presence.
- Cover college and professional sports, including local teams.
- Version stories for different platforms and formats.
- Use AI tools to generate headlines, SEO keywords, and alert language.
- Apply AI for grammar, clarity, and style improvements.
- Utilize AI for monitoring public meetings and data summarization.
What you'll need#
- Strong writing and editing skills.
- At least one previous internship in sports media.
- Excellent verbal and analytical abilities.
- Strong news judgment and experience covering breaking news.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Pursuing a degree in Communications, Journalism, or Media Studies.
- Required application materials: cover letter, résumé with references, and a maximum of five published clips.
